Deck Cleaning Before The Summer Holidays

Spring is in the air, flowers are blooming, and the kids are playing outside again. You’ve probably pulled out the barbecue grill on your deck for some evening grilling. But when looking at your deck, it looks like a bomb hit it.

In Missouri deck cleaning is just as common as taking your car to the carwash. Most decks over a period of time begin to get mold and mildew on them, causing them to need a through cleaning. This should be done with low pressure (between eight hundred to one thousand psi) to avoid damage to the wood.

Deck cleaning should also be done with the right cleaning products. Sodium hypochlorite with some household soap makes a great cleaner for removing mold and mildew on decks.

In St. Louis deck staining is a great way to protect the wood from rot and decay. Many decks need to be prepped the correct way when getting ready to stain. If using the same deck stain, a good cleaning and reapplication is okay to do. However, if you switch stains it is best to remove the old stain by stripping the deck, rejuvenating the wood with a proper detergent, and then begin deck staining with a good quality oil based deck stain.
